A MAP OF LONELY BOOKS
Hollowed book, paper
2016
In order to better understand loneliness and why the feeling of solitude or absence can make us feel disheartened, A Map of Lonely Books was installed in the Alberta University of the Arts' Luke Lindoe Library. The map, found in a hollowed book and in the format of a list of call numbers and titles hidden within a envelope inside, can act as a discursive analysis of personal and cultural loneliness. Each set of numbers and letters represents a dewey number to be found in the shelves, and each book represents a different kind of loneliness. Readers were not asked for anything other than to return the book and map to their dusty home once they finished exploring.
